Plan A Marriage (and a wedding!)

A wedding will last a day (two days at the most if you have a next-day-brunch, quite the trend, particularly for destination weddings) whilst your marriage, all things going to plan, will hopefully last a lifetime. Follow these simple tips to ensure you don’t forget that gorgeous fiancé of yours somewhere between the proposal and the vows.

Date night
It can be easy to get caught up in the excitement and detail of planning a wedding, however debate over peonies vs David Austin roses isn’t quite the life-altering decision it may first appear to be. Allocate some time for yourselves as a couple and try not to talk about the wedding. You will find it a little tricky at first, but you will soon be glad you did, as he'll appreciate spending time with the girl he fell in love with, not a crazed wedding planner whose thoughts are consumed by the flavour of the cake and whether to serve it as petit fours or dessert.

Include him in decisions
When your groom-to-be says that he doesn’t care about the details, or that it’s “your day”, what he probably means is “I won't get into trouble if I stay quiet!” He won't appreciate the difference between off white and ecru like you will so don't expect him to. Don’t bore him with the little things or all the options, but do include him in decisions. Just narrow down the choices for him and you will be impressed at his interest and ability to make quick decisions.

Delegate
Don't take on all the responsibility: tap into his interests and give him some things to organise. Perfect ‘man jobs’ involve his existing interests. For most men this is namely cars and music. A word to the wise however: you may wish to subtlety monitor his selections or you may find yourself arriving in a pimped out Hummer and being escorted down the aisle to Kanye’s Gold Digger. Unless that’s your thing of course!

Be yourself
Getting married is a wonderful stage of your life. It is the celebration of your relationship and commitment to each other. Try not to get caught up in the little details of the day, take the time to enjoy it, your guests and your new husband! The day will go by so quickly and the memories will last forever. Good luck!

I am all about the marriage not the wedding, whereas my fiance wants to big wedding, a nice small simple day would be lovely, nothing extravagant. Its not just about the dress or the cake or being the centre of attention. Its about the both of you not just the Bride. Enjoy and stop stressing about the little details! Just Relax and it will be perfect.
