Baby Beauty Queens

Follows the journey of three girls, aged seven to nine, as they enter Britain's first ever pre-teen beauty pageant. With fake tans and acrylic nails at the ready, their mums are determined to do everything within their power to make sure their little darlings make the best impression in front of the judges. From expensive catwalk coaches to designer dresses, all eyes are on the one and only cash prize.

This is a film with an attractively simple, strong narrative - three girls enter a competition but only one can be crowned Queenie Tweenie. Underneath that narrative there's troubling and provocative issues about parenting, about the erosion of childhood and about media sexuality.

Well through morbid curiosity I watched Baby Beauty Queens, I find it quite disturbinng, I suppose on one level part of us want others to validate the beauty we see in our children, it's fun & glitzy. I can see that. But what choice do most of these little ones really have. Why do they have to do all this make up on them, fake smiles, mini women. Paedophiles must love this stuff. These people take it so seriously. How much money, time & most importantly being a child is wasted, Most of these women need therapy as far as i'm concerned. Competition is ok to a certain degree, but come on. I'd love to see these children just start playing some cricket or something & stuff all the fru-fru & preening, Or may be be involved in something charitable, Take your kids camping or travelling, something worthwhile. See the real beauty in thier smiles when they achieve something like putting up a tent, catching a fish, Just enjoying family fun. Climbing a mountain. You know what I mean. Real memories, genuine beauty.

I watched Baby Beauty Queens and was so disappointed with these mothers that put their son/s and daughters through all the stress and long hours just to have most of these precious children fail to win the top prize. What are they telling these children. As a Mother myself I know that children already have so many insecurities to deal with these days, with all the super skinny models and advertising unrealistic beauty ideas, such as photo touching up these already beautiful people. What a load of superficial bull. These mothers are living their fantasies vicariously through the young impressionable child. Not only does this send the wrong message to the future generations, but they end up becoming very superficial and precocious. Please beauty pageant Mums, look at what you are producing for our future generations to come. Aren't all these children beautiful and precious and all deserve to know that what appears on the outside is not necessarily what lies within. Grow up and let your children be children
